Iguana
Care
Iguanas are not simple reptiles to care for. They have
very specific (and expensive) needs in environment, diet
and socialization. It is imperative that the potential
iguana owner is willing and capable to meet these needs
in order to ensure a long, healthy life of companionship
and love.
Size
One of the most common misconceptions prospective
iguana owners have is size. A hatchling is very
small, averaging approximately 3 inches snout to
vent length (referred to as SVL) or approximately
7 inches snout to tail (referred to as SVT). Alot
of ig owners are shocked to see that within a few
years, their "little green baby" has grown
to a impressive size of 4-6 feet and weighs well
over 10lbs, some as much as 15-20lbs! Therefore
if space is limited at your home, perhaps you should
reconsider your choice of the green iguana as a
pet.
